Stress represents one of the main risk factors in the pathogenesis of psychiatric diseases. The aim of this research is to determine how particular stressors affect the function and molecular composition of glutamatergic synapses in different brain regions, with the aim providing insight into the patophysiologic effects of stress on neuronal function in key aspects related to the pathogenesis of psychiatric disorders. The aim of these studies transcends basic research, and the ultimate goal is translational in nature with the aim of opening and testing new avenues for therapeutic strategies for stress related psychiatric disorders.
Successful candidate will work on animal samples. He/she will perform various quantitative and functional assays in order to assess synaptic structure and function in various brain regions that are of key significance in the neurobiology of stress. He/she will be expected to use biochemical and imaging techniques for characterization of relevant pathways in synaptic terminals.
The applicant must have at least a master’s degree or equivalent in biological sciences. Background in neuroscience is a prerequisite, preferably including international experience. Experience in immunohistochemistry, western blot, PCR, confocal microscopy is an advantage. The applicant is expected to have a keen interest in the pathophysiology of stress related disorders.
The applicant should be well organized and independent in his/her work, but also be a strong team player and motivated to work in a vibrant international and multidisciplinary research group.
