Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) conducts research in the field of neuroscience, from the molecular to the societal level. In the multidisciplinary Experimental alcohol- and drug dependence research group at the Centre for Psychiatry Research (CPF), you will have a unique opportunity to study cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie common neuropsychiatric disorders, such as Alcohol Use Disorders (AUD), and use quantitative time-resolved techniques with single-molecule sensitivity to characterize in live cells the underlying molecular mechanisms and the effects of selected compounds on relevant pharmacologic targets.

Your mission

The successful candidate is expected to further develop quantitative fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy based methods with high spatial and temporal resolution and single-molecule sensitivity; to apply these methods in pre-clinical research that focuses on cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the development of Alcohol Use Disorders (AUD); analyse the mechanisms and biological consequences of interactions of selected compounds with cell surface receptors, with an aim to assess their effect and potential for the development of innovative pharmacotherapies for the prevention of relapse into substance use disorders. The successful candidate is expected to work closely with other members in the research group, national and international collaborators, contribute significantly to a productive research environment, obtain additional independent funding, supervise students and participate in research education.

The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for five (5) years, with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants with a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Life Science, Pharmacy or Physical Chemistry and a minimum of 4 years of post-doctoral training in any of these disciplines, with a particular experience in biophotonics, i.e. advanced fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy based methods and their application in biomedical research.

Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor.

Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist. Special grounds refer to illness or parental leave.

Bases of assessment

Scientific expertise will be most important when assessing applicants. Of highest importance is also the applicant’s research expertise in the subject area, as described in the Eligibility requirements. Deep understanding and broad experience with biophysical, biochemical, cell biology and molecular cloning techniques, with a particular focus on fluorescence microscopy and correlation spectroscopy techniques and their application in pre-clinical and clinical neuroscience research is advantageous and will be of a strong merit for the applicant. Knowledge of statistics and functional data analysis with Matlab is also a strong merit. The applicant’s track record in attracting national and international research funding within the field and the potential to receive further funding will also be assessed.
