The department of clinical sciences, Danderyd hospital (KI DS) was established in its current form 1993. Annually, about 400 students undergo their basic medical training at KI DS, including the units of surgery and urology, anesthesiology and intensive care, radiology, internal medicine, cardiology and clinical physiology, clinical chemistry, obstetrics and gynecology as well as orthopedic surgery. The department conducts clinical research in several different areas with a focus on diseases frequently treated at the hospital. The department has about 90 registered PhD students and annually about 10 defend their dissertations for a doctoral degree in medicine. Approximately 200-250 articles are published annually in international peer-review journals. The department annually provides several courses for specialist competence in various subjects as well as further education courses for specialists and postgraduate courses.

The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Danderyd Hospital is a large unit with extensive activities. The unit conducts patient-centered research focusing on diseases according to the hospital's patient assignments (obstetrics and benign gynaecology) as well as education and training in gynaecology and obstetrics for medical students.

Your mission

The employment has a focus on research. The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Danderyd Hospital has several research supervisors, PhD students and a well-structured research unit with several research nurses and coordinators.

The department now wants to recruit a new senior lecturer who will lead and continue to develop research and having overall responsibility for the education in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Danderyd Hospital. The holder of the position will lead the USV unit at the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The position is intended to be divided as 70% employment at Karolinska Institutet as a senior lecturer, and 30% as a specialist trained physician in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Danderyd Hospital.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a senior lecturer, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the person must have demonstrated research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills and clinical expertise (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The position will be combined with a position as a specialist trained physician in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Danderyd Hospital and therefore the candidate must have an MD with specialist competence in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, or corresponding competence, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden.

Since the employment requires collaboration with other hospitals in the county, the holder must have documented experience of collaboration between different hospitals and to lead research activities.

Since the position includes patient contact the applicant must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish corresponding to the C1 level according to the common European reference scale (CERS).

Bases of assessment 

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2), and clinical expertise (2).

It is particularly meritorious with experience in both obstetrical and gynecological research. It is also particularly meritorious with experience of being responsible for full teaching course or part of major teaching course. If the applicant has a gynecological profile, this should be in benign gynaecology due to the hospital´s patient assignment.

The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching or have equivalent competence in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
