The laboratory of Professor Thomas Helleday and Deputy group leader Ulrika Warpman Berglund provides an excellent translational and scientific environment. The multidisciplinary research group is located at Science for Life Laboratory and consists of PhD students, postdocs and senior scientists within biology, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacology, many with experience from the pharmaceutical industry.
We are looking for a highly motivated and lab experienced Research Scientist to the Helleday group. Your main task will be to plan and lead the work of the Disease Models team, part of the Helleday laboratory. Your work will be very varied, and in addition to lead the team you will also work with uncovering molecular mechanisms using in vivo models, immunohistology staining techniques and several molecular biology techniques.
In more detail, you will contribute to a further understanding of the role of DNA repair and metabolisms proteins in cancer and characterise small molecules inhibiting these pathways. For instance, we have identified and developed a MTH1 inhibitor, Karonudib, that is presently under clinical development. To support the clinical findings and development we still need to further investigate biomarkers, combination treatments, potential resistance mechanisms and obtain a deeper understanding of the mechanism of action of the compound.
The Disease Models team’s role is to validate the basic science findings in relevant disease models, investigate pharmacokinetic properties of the novel compounds, PK/PD relationships, biomarkers and perform translational research.
The team, today consists of two in vivo pharmacologists, but may also be extended with master students as well as PhD students for which you will be responsible for. That is, you will plan, lead and execute the work of the team and be responsible for the delivery of high-quality data in a timely manner from your team and work closely with the other multidisciplinary teams to enable further understanding of the mechanisms and the target of interest, PK/PD understanding and identification of biomarkers.
A person is eligible to be appointed Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after the defense of his or her doctoral thesis.
