A postdoc position is available in the research group of Professor Kenneth Chien. The central scientific interest of his group is to understand heart development at the molecular and cellular level, with the ultimate goal of applying the developmental principles, logic, pathways, technology, and model systems to unravel human heart disease.

Your profile

We are seeking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to elucidate cardiogenesis in cell culture systems and animal models. The candidate is expected to work with animal models and embryonic stem cells, manipulate embryos, perform molecular cell biology and imaging techniques, perform bioinformatics analysis, and create relevant software applications. The candidate is expected to be able to work independently with the projects.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. The candidate’s personal skills will be highly valued.

Specific skills required

  • Strong background in cardiac development, molecular biology and cell signaling
  • Experience in working with different mouse models, including disease models and cell lineage tracing models.
  • Experience in cell line culture under normal conditions and in hypoxic conditions
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy
  • Experience in bulk and single cell RNA-seq analysis
  • Experience in R, C# and Python programming languages
  • Documented experience of gene manipulation methods, CRISPR/Cas9 technology

Meriting skills

  • Experience in manipulation of mouse embryos and mouse hearts
  • Experience in working with hypoxic chamber
