The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Malignant lymphoma is a heterogenous group of diseases with large variations in clinical presentation and outcome. Many patients can be cured, but not all. You will be part of a translational research environment together with clinical pathologists, clinical hematologists and basic researchers. Your research will aim to increase the knowledge on disease mechanisms and to identify novel targets for lymphoma therapy.

Your mission

You are a talented, innovative and enthusiastic researcher with a PhD in immunology, cell biology, pathology or pharmacology or other related areas. The applicant is expected to play a leading role in experimental design, experimentation, and presentation/publication of results. The candidate must be able to work within a team environment. The applicant must be fluent in English since this is the language used in the research environment. The applicant should be experienced in cell culture and cellular and molecular techniques such as flow cytometry, western blot and PCR. Experience with isolation of human leukocytes from blood and tissues and culture of primary lymphocytes is desirable. Bioinformatics is an essential tool in part of the studies and will be done in collaboration, some experience in bioinformatics is desirable.

The main focus of post-doctoral position will be to conduct research projects aiming to unravel the cellular and molecular dysregulation in the lymphoma cells of patients with mantle cell lymphoma and other hematological malignancies. The project will have a focus on transcriptional regulator SOX11 in mantle cell lymphoma, how it interacts with other nuclear proteins and how this might affect sensitivity to DNA-repair and antimetabolites.  Further projects involve studies on the G-protein coupled cannabinoid receptors and how signaling through these receptors influence global protein phosphorylation, cell migration and interactions with the tissue microenvironment. The experimental studies are performed on cell lines and primary lymphoma cells isolated from patients. The studies involve close collaboration with clinical hematologists, clinical pathologists and SciLife Lab.

Your key tasks as a PhD fellow are to:

  • Manage and carry through your research project
  • Write and publish scientific articles
  • Write grant applications and actively search for project financing
