Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. Now we are looking for you who want to be part of and contribute to our department!

Your mission

A major task for the senior lecturer will be to contribute to the ongoing research activities within the psychology sector at ARC, conceptually as well as methodologically. In addition, there are possibilities to initiate individual research projects, based on the candidate’s interests. Teaching assignments at, for example, undergraduate-, advanced- and doctoral education levels as well as supervision of master’s students and doctoral students are included.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a senior lecturer, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the person must have demonstrated research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

We are looking for a researcher with documented experience of leading and developing research of high international quality. The area includes research on the relationship between age-related changes in the brain and intellectual functions in healthy and pathological memory. Extensive, high-quality publications in these subject areas, documented experience of coordinating and leading research projects, obtaining research grants as a main applicant (ongoing or previous), experience of academic leadership, as well as of international collaborations are a requirement.

Bases of assessment

The Senior Lectureships has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2) and leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2).

A solid background when it comes to planning, conducting, and publishing longitudinal studies in normal aging and dementia (preclinical and clinical) weighs heavily in recruitment. This also applies to experience of research on the relationship between different brain variables (structural and functional) and cognitive functions. In addition, experience of teaching, course organization, and license as psychologist are meritorious.

The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching or have equivalent competence in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
