- with focus on education and research

Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The Department of Dental Medicine at Karolinska Institutet provides undergraduate education for dental and dental hygiene students, as well as masters and doctoral level studies. The Division of Oral Diseases delivers undergraduate and postgraduate training in the fundamental and clinical disciplines of cariology, endodontics, periodontology, and dental hygiene. Our goal is to generate dentists and dental hygienists with increased understanding of oral health and mechanisms underlying oral disease, in order consolidate their clinical skills.

In pursuit of our educational goals we collaborate closely with the University Dental Clinic where clinical training takes place. Several of the educators and researchers at the Division of Oral Diseases hold joint appointments at the University Dental Clinic.

Since this the Division delivers education in core disciplines of dentistry and dental hygiene, it is imperative to strengthen the traditional pedagogic approaches by pursuing and validating novel approaches in teaching and assessment, which need to be driven by scientifically-backed evidence and active research. This is a particular priority at the Department, especially following the implementation of new educational curricula for dentistry and dental hygiene during 2019. Hence, KI as a world-leading University in dentistry and dental hygiene, wishes to establish a professorship with an educational focus coupled to research.
