Your mission

The employment has a focus on research.

The position includes research focusing on pediatric immunology and related areas such as allergy and asthma as well as infections, with the aim of strengthening and further developing the area of pediatric immunology, infection and inflammation, including experimental and translational research and clinical service at Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital at the Karolinska University Hospital.

Since the position aims at bridging and strengthening clinical care and research as well as  education and research in the area of pediatric immunology, the successful applicant is expected to take part in further development of clinical research infrastructures, education of our undergraduate and postgraduate students within the field.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills and clinical expertise (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The appointee is expected to perform internationally competitive research in the field of pediatric immunology, as documented by the number and quality of publications in international peer-reviewed journals. The applicant must demonstrate external funding acquired in competition as main applicant, present successful supervision of doctoral students and have experience from operating and developing pedagogic activities.

The position will be combined with a position as a specialist trained physician at Karolinska University Hospital. Therefore, the candidate must have an MD with specialist competence in child and adolescent medicine or corresponding competence, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden. Since the position includes clinical work, the successful applicant must demonstrate proficiency in Swedish at least corresponding to the C1 level according to the common European reference scale (CERS).

Bases of assessment 

The Professorship has a focus on research. The assessment will weigh qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2) and clinical expertise (1).

Since the position aims to strengthen translational research, clinical experience will be meritorious, as will experience from leadership and collaboration. After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at Karolinska Institutet. Since the intended employment is about developing the research area and future leadership, personal qualifications such as the ability to cooperate and international experience and networks is highly meriting.

The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching (or have equivalent competence) in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
