Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
We are looking for a highly motivated co-worker with a PhD degree in an area relevant for this position. The project to be developed aims at characterizing novel interactors of the hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1a). The candidate will perform in vitro and in vivo assays to characterize the physiological function of newly discovered HIF-1a interactors. Generation of diverse plasmids and recombinant viral vectors will be used for expression and purification of recombinant proteins, biochemical and molecular experiments, both in vivo and in cell cultures, primary and immortalized. The candidate is expected to be heavily involved in project design, implementation, analysis, and interpretation, in close collaboration with other team members. The candidate is also expected to communicate scientific findings in conferences and articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
The candidate should have experience in tissue culture techniques including the isolation, preparation, and maintenance of mouse primary myoblasts and hepatocytes. Additionally, the candidate should have experience with handling and manipulation of laboratory animals, and a strong background in animal physiology and molecular biology. The candidate should also be experienced in techniques necessary for the execution of the project, such as DNA cloning, protein expression and purification, quantitative real-time PCR, and generation and utilization of adeno and baculoviruses. Having FELASA A certification, experience with recombinant protein expression in insect cells and good knowledge of high-performance liquid chromatography are merits.
Excellent communication skills and an ability to interact socially and scientifically with other postdoctoral fellows and students in the laboratory and with collaborators in various networks are essential. A good command of the English language is needed for this position. The ideal candidate should be ambitious and strongly motivated to develop the proposed project, as well as hardworking, collaborative, efficient and innovative.
