The employment has a focus on research.

The position includes clinical epidemiological research within the area of malignant lymphoma at the Clinical Epidemiology Division, Department of Medicine, Solna, teaching and research education / training within the field of clinical epidemiology at the same division, and clinical service at the Department of Hematology, Theme Cancer, Karolinska University Hospital. Some teaching in epidemiology at graduate and/or postgraduate level at Karolinska Institutet will be part of the duties.

Since the position aims to bridging and strengthening clinical care and research, the successful applicant is expected to take active part in the leadership and further development of clinical research infrastructures within the field.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills and clinical expertise. The ideal applicant is expected to perform internationally competitive clinical epidemiological research in the field of lymphoma, as documented by the number and quality of publications in international peer-reviewed journals during the last five to seven years. The applicant must demonstrate external funding acquired as main applicant during the last five years, and successful supervision of doctoral students. Applicants must further possess all the formal merits required for a clinical position at the Karolinska University Hospital.

The position will be combined with a clinical position as specialist-trained physician as hematologist / oncologist at the Department of Hematology, Theme Cancer, Karolinska University Hospital. The successful applicant must therefore hold a board certificate in either of these disciplines, or corresponding competence, and fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden. Since the position includes clinical work, the successful applicant must demonstrate proficiency in Sweden at least corresponding to the C1 level according to the common European reference scale (CERS).

Bases of assessment 

The Professorship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2), and clinical expertise (1).

Since the position aims to strengthen the clinical research infrastructure, experience from such work, and from academic positions of trust, will be meritorious, as will experience from leadership and collaboration.

Since the position also includes teaching obligations within clinical epidemiology, mainly on the research education level and within the Division’s own teaching programme, pedagogical skills, and good experience of teaching and teaching planning in the relevant area and on the relevant level, are also meritorious.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.

The appointee must have undergone 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or having otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
