- with focus on research

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Medicine, Karolinska Institutet (KI) Huddinge, is one of the fastest growing clinical departments at KI and home to translational research in all areas of internal medicine, including cardiology. The department is built up by seven units, containing a total of around 60 research groups, and conducts research, PhD training and runs basic education programs for medical doctors, nurses and in other relevant areas for the profession.

Cardiology is an established and large activity at KI and at the Karolinska University Hospital, both with regard to research and clinical activity. A clinical area that is rapidly expanding is advanced treatment of arrhythmias. Catheter ablation therapy is in a particularly strong development phase, and the Karolinska University Hospital is presently, with over 1500 treatments per year, the largest center in the Nordic countries for invasive electrophysiology. The clinical activity at the Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge is thus in the forefront and a strengthened research is needed to link clinical progress with improved diagnostics and clinical implementation on larger patient groups, and to spread new knowledge to society at large.

Your mission

The appointee is expected to conduct a competitive clinical research program in arrhytmology and at the same time take an overall responsibility for the academic development in cardiology in general, both within the department and in relation to the clinical activity in the hospital. Furthermore, it is expected that the candidate will take the responsibility to strengthen both PhD training and basic education in this dynamic area, and to develop KI’s international network in arrhytmology.

The Professorship will be combined with employment as a physician at the clinical cardiology unit, Theme Hjärta Kärl Neuro, Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge.
