Division
Brain Molecular Imaging Centre (BMIC) is a core facility for molecular imaging of the brain using positron emission tomography (PET). The aim of the core facility is to provide expertise and competence for brain imaging PET studies in human subjects and non-human primates (NHPs). BMIC supports research studies in psychiatric disorders, neurodegenerative disorders and neuropsychopharmacology. BMIC provides also broader expertise for key molecular PET imaging studies supporting drug development programs in other research and therapeutic areas. The access to NHPs at the Astrid Fagreus Laboratory (AFL) provides a fully translational research platform for rapid implementation and validation of new PET probes in human studies. BMIC operates in connection with two more core facilities, the Radiopharmacy Core Facility and the Small Animal Molecular Imaging Centre, to cover a fully translational imaging platform. BMIC operates at the present location of the PET-Centre in the Neurology Building of Karolinska University Hospital. However, the NHP PET imaging activity will be transferred to AFL, where a new imaging facility will be built during 2020.

The Senior Researcher will be affiliated Varrone´s Research Group at the Centre for Psychiatry Research (CPF). The Senior Researcher will be responsible for the coordination of the PET research in non-human primates, interacting with the research PET groups affiliated to CPF and supporting contract-based research in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies. The Senior Researcher will coordinate the activity of the personnel involved in the non-human primate research, be the principal investigator at the PET Unit for NHP studies, and be responsible for the analysis of the PET data and the scientific presentation of the results. About 50% of the activity will conducted in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies, but the Senior Researcher is expected to contribute to the scientific production of the research group and within 5 years to seek independent research grants to support own research and salary.
