The Division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Department of Clinical Science Intervention and Technology (CLINTEC), Karolinska Institutet (KI) is an academic center, working in close collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) at Karolinska University Hospital-Huddinge. The unit provides theoretical and practical education and training to medical students and also provides research opportunities and post graduate education for PhD students, postdocs as well as for physicians and midwives.
Currently, approximately 50 different professionals are employed within our division. Several research groups are engaged in clinical as well as basic and translational research activities. The division has several experimental laboratories doing research in assisted reproductive technologies (ART), infertility, fertility preservation, embryonic stem cell biology, fetal therapy, fetal regenerative medicine, reproductive toxicology, placental imaging and placental biology, application of advanced ultrasound techniques to study fetal cardiovascular physiology etc. A clinical research unit is also located within the OBGYN department of the Karolinska University Hospital. The Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology also collaborates with the unit of Reproductive Medicine which is located at the Karolinska University Hospital-Huddinge and has state of the art facilities for modern management of fertility problems in including preimplantation genetic diagnosis. The unit is accredited for subspecialty training by ESHRE.

We aim to recruit a highly motivated, scientist with a PhD in Medicine, Reproductive Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Imaging, Bioinformatics or another relevant field not specified here. The prospective candidate should meet the criteria for a full professorship at KI with regards to scientific, pedagogic, administrative and leadership qualifications and experience.
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated an ability to innovate new technologies, strategically lead a research group, collaborate internationally, obtain research grants from prestigious organisations (such as Swedish Research Council, MRC, ERC, NIH, or other national sources), initiate and successfully conduct multicentre clinical trials or lead large research consortia.
The candidate must be fluent in spoken and written English. Good knowledge of Swedish, Norwegian or Danish is an advantage.
The position has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows in a scale of 1-3: research expertise (3), educational expertise (1), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2), and clinical expertise (2).
A keen interest and experience with research in the area of understanding mechanisms and evaluating novel treatments reducing implantation failure and pregnancy loss after fertility treatment, developing and evaluating novel imaging technologies and previous research experience in large data handling and application bioinformatics for deep learning/artificial intelligence in constructing predictive algorithms to improve success of ART would be beneficial.
Qualification as a medical doctor (MD) with a specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology and having clinical skills in ART and management of infertility or other significant clinical experience is an advantage, however not compulsory. The position may be combined with a position as a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology (Reproductive Medicine) at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Karolinska University Hospital provided the candidate has an MD with specialist competence in Obstetrics and Gynecology, or corresponding competence, as well as fulfills the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden.
After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
The appointee must have undergone 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or having otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
