Department

Clinical science, intervention and technology are the basis for the interface with academic healthcare. Through a close partnership between academia and healthcare, the Department educates the next generation of professionals in healthcare and research. The Department of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology, CLINTEC, has 14 units and one section with responsibility for undergraduate, postgraduate and research. Basic education activities include the training of Audiologists, Medical doctors, Radiographers, and Speech and language pathologists.

At the Division of Speech and Language Pathology, education and research are conducted in various areas of speech, voice, language and swallowing disorders. The research and postgraduate education at the Division of speech and language pathology is conducted in research teams with different focus: voice disorders, speech and language disorders, language and cognitive disorders, and eating and swallowing difficulties. The division has the main responsibility for the speech and language pathology programme at Karolinska Institutet. The division also provides further training in advanced speech and language pathology, as independent courses that can be used in a master's degree in speech and language pathology.

Duties

The position is intended to be combined with clinical service as a speech and language pathologist.

The employment has a focus on education and research. The tasks include research with the aim on increasing the quality and quantity of efforts regarding acquired communication disorders, and education at undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate level.

The professor shall initiate and lead research projects, report research projects, and supervise doctoral students to public defense. Furthermore, initiate, maintain and develop active research collaborations at both national and international levels, and perform grant applications.

The professor shall actively stimulate teachers’ research related activities and a strong subject related and pedagogical research base of education, conduct teaching including work-integrated learning based on research, and hold assignments at the speech and language pathology programme and division.

When combined with clinical services the professor should work for evidence-based activities by establishment new forms of therapy or treatment principles through the implementation of own research or based on national or international findings.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, management, development and collaborative skills and clinical expertise. (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).]

The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or have otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge.

The position is intended to be combined with clinical service as a certified speech and language pathologist at the relevant healthcare unit and therefore the applicant must hold a degree in speech and language pathology fulfill the requirements for certification in Sweden. Very good knowledge of Swedish and English is required.

Bases of assessment

The Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (2), educational expertise (3), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2), and clinical expertise (1).

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, KI will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
