- with focus on research

The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM)
The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.

Karolinska Institutet has knowledge on health promotion. However, both IMM and Karolinska Institutet lack knowledge on worksite health promotion with a special focus on the systematic development and evaluation of interventions and on how these interventions can be implemented in society. A research position within worksite health promotion at IMM will contribute to the development of a multidisciplinary perspective to health promotion, which integrates health promotion with the creation of a good and safe work environment.

Duties
The employment has a focus on research. The senior lecturer will conduct research projects within the area of worksite health promotion with a special focus on the systematic development and evaluation of interventions, in addition to the implementation of these interventions into society. The focus will be on employee’s health and lifestyle. The tasks also include responsibility for courses and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as supervision at postgraduate level. The senior lecturer will also be collaborating with external partners, such as employers and occupational health services. Experience with collaboration with these external partners is considered very important for the position of senior lecturer in worksite health promotion.

Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for employment as a senior lecturer, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the person must have demonstrated research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

Bases of assessment
The Senior Lectureship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2), and leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2)

The appointee must have undergone 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or having otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

We are looking for an independent researcher who is at the forefront of research in the area of worksite health promotion with a specific focus on employee’s health and lifestyle in intervention- and implementation studies. The applicant should have a solid knowledge of worksite health promotion. Knowledge within evidence-based practice, lifestyle, systematic development of interventions, theories, models and frameworks in intervention- and implementation research and effect- and process evaluation is a merit.

It is an advantage if the applicant has obtained external funding in competition. Leadership, development and collaboration expertise is considered very important.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
