The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.
We are recruiting a student for doctoral education.
For more information regarding doctoral (PhD) education, see: http://www.ki.se/doctoral.
Research group
The doctoral candidate will work in Pontus Blomberg's research team at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Huddinge. The group works closely with Professor Edvard Smith and Associate professor Rula Zain. The research focuses on non-viral gene transfer and oligo based gene therapy.
The doctoral education project and the duties of the student
The project is focused on developing new, more efficient and safer non-viral vectors for DNA vaccination and gene therapy. It is about studying the production and application of so-called minicircles, which are circular DNA molecules containing only eukaryotic gene sequences. The project also includes the development of nucleic acid-based treatment strategies for neurological diseases. The doctoral student is expected to actively drive the project forward which includes planning and evaluation of experiments and results.
