The Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) conducts research and education in the field of neuroscience from the molecular level to the society level. The clinical research and education is conducted in collaboration with Region Stockholm as well as other research groups from Karolinska Institutet and other universities.

Division
The Division of psychology, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, has about 100 employees, many whom are involved in the 5-year psychology program. Research is carried out in approximately 15 research groups, investigating pre-clinical and clinical research questions in psychology (https://ki.se/en/cns/research-at-the-division-of-psychology). The psychology program at KI is based on a so-called scientist-practitioner model, which means that the students will gain good methodological skills and knowledge that enables scientifically-based clinical work.

Duties
Social- and affective neuroscience is a growing cross-disciplinary research field spanning several areas of scientific psychology with the aim to understand how the biology of human mind and behavior is affected by its social environment. Of key interest is the study of the mechanisms underlying social learning and interaction with immense relevance to basic and clinical research in humans.

We are looking for a researcher with a strong commitment to world-class research in the field of social- and affective neuroscience and who actively can contribute to the development and maintenance of the department’s psychophysiology laboratory.

Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for employment as Professor the person must have demonstrated both research- and teaching expertise, as well as management-, development- and collaborative skills. The person shall also have completed 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or having otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge.

In assessing the applicants, we attach particular importance to research quality and experience of obtaining competitive research funding from national or international sources. In assessing the pedagogical skills, experience in planning, implementation and evaluation of supervision, examination and teaching will be taken into consideration.

The applicant shall have documented and extensive research and teaching experience in the field of social psychology and social- and affective neuroscience. Furthermore, the applicant shall have documented experience as a research leader, including supervision of postdoctoral and doctoral students.

Bases of assessment
The Professorship has focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (3), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2).

The Department particularly welcomes applicants with an expertise on social and emotional learning that bridges research on biological psychology with social and clinical psychology. Expertise in social- and affective neuroscience is meriting.  

Administrative experience such as board participation and committee work is meriting. Research involving a variety of methodologies, including behavioral, psychophysiological, imaging (fMRI), and computational approaches is meriting.

After an overall assessment of the candidates merits and expertise KI will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities.
