Division
The Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) conducts research and education in the field of neuroscience from the molecular level to the society level. One of the five divisions of the department is the Division of Insurance Medicine. Activities at the interdisciplinary and multi-professional division comprise research, systematic literature reviews, post graduate training, education, and networking regarding research about sickness absence, work disability, health, and living conditions. Examples of research areas are different aspects of sickness absence and disability pension such as 1) risk factors for sick leave or disability pension 2) consequences of being sickness absent or disability pensioned, 3) factors that hinder and promote return to work, 4) sickness certification practises, and 5) methods and theories within this research area. This is studied in general, in different groups (e.g., specific occupations, ages etc) or for different diagnoses (e.g., mental, musculoskeletal, cancer, multiple sclerosis, hearing disorders, and cardio-vascular disorders). More information can be found at ki.se/im

The subject of insurance medicine is relatively new and has developed significantly in recent years. Sickness absence and disability pension are particularly complex phenomena that require different types of interdisciplinary studies, both regarding etiology and prognosis, in general, as well as in different diagnostic areas (especially mental disorders), occupations and life situations.
