Division of Clinical Pharmacology

The Division of Clinical Pharmacology at the Department of Laboratory Medicine has a strong history in pharmacogenetics, drug metabolism, pharmacoepidemiology and tropical pharmacology. The division currently has two professors in clinical pharmacology with appointments at both Karolinska Institutet and the Karolinska University Hospital. The Department of Laboratory Medicine has extensive research and undergraduate education. The Division of Clinical Pharmacology plays a central role in the education of medical students, biomedical analysts, nurses, and dental hygienists. The Division of Clinical Pharmacology has a close collaboration with the Diagnostic Laboratory in Clinical Pharmacology within the Karolinska University Laboratory.

Duties

We are looking for a person with internationally recognized research in the field of tropical pharmacology. It is expected that the successful applicant will perform internationally leading research in tropical pharmacology. The duties include postgraduate education and education within the Karolinska Institutet´s various undergraduate programs. The academic assignment is located to Karolinska Institutet´s Campus South.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the person must have a strong track record in research and education, as well as management and collaborative skills (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet). Applicants must have a strong track record in internationally leading research in the field of tropical pharmacology. The applicant must have strong track record in obtaining national and international research funding as principal investigator and have the potential to secure further funding. The applicants should have documented collaboration and leadership skills and experience in translational research in a clinical environment. The applicant should also have experience in supervision of doctoral students to dissertation. 

Bases of assessment

The Professorship has a focus on research. In assessing the applicants, we place particular emphasis on research quality and future potential for internationally leading research in tropical pharmacology. Thus, the assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2) and clinical expertise (1). 

The appointee must have undergone 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or have otherwise obtained equivalent competence. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment. 

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
