Karolinska Institutet, Department of Laboratory Medicine

The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.

Section

The Department of Clinical Immunology and Transfusion Medicine at the Department of Laboratory Medicine currently has four research groups in clinical immunology and cell therapy. The department has a very strong history in immunogenetic research. Two professors hold joint employment.

The Department is one of the most educational intensive at Karolinska Institutet, and the Department of Clinical Immunology and Transfusion Medicine plays a central role in primary education for doctors, biomedical analysts (BMAs), nurses, dental hygienists and dentists. 

Duties

We are looking for a person with internationally highly regarded research in the field of clinical immunology. The duties include the pursuit of successful postgraduate education and teaching within the Karolinska Institutets various programs. It is expected that the successful applicant will perform experimental and translational research on immunogenetics or another relevant area. The academic assignment is located to Karolinska Institutet at Campus Flemingsberg. The appointment is intended to be combined with an assignment at Clinical Immunology, Karolinska University Laboratory at Karolinska University Hospital.

Qualifications

To be employed as a professor one must have shown scientific as well educational skills.

Applicants should be established and conduct internationally leading research in the field, have good documented collaboration and leadership skills and experience in translational research in a clinical environment. The applicant must have obtained national or international research funding as PI in competition and have the potential to secure further funding in the area. The applicant should also have experience with supervision of doctoral students to the dissertation. 

Clinical skills are a merit and will therefore be taken into account. 

Assessment criteria

The Professorship has a focus on research. In assessing the applicants, we place particular emphasis on research quality and future potential for relevant and translational research on immunogenetics or another relevant area. Thus, scientific skill will be weighed in with factor 3, pedagogical skill with factor 2, as well as leadership, development and collaboration skills with factor 2.

The appointee must have undergone 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or having otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment
