Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Within our research group you will find a unique opportunity to work closely together with cutting edge researchers in the intersection between infectious diseases, antiviral treatment, antiviral immunity, and viral pathogenesis. We offer an engaging and international research environment where you may contribute to high quality research on an internationally competitive level.

Our research group has a strong focus on pathogenesis, immunity, treatment, prophylaxis, and cure of HIV infection. More recently, we also performed research on SARS-CoV-2. Of special interest is our interest in the antiviral cellular immune response against HIV-1. The experimental research of the present position is focused on in vitro and ex vivo evaluation of immune cells and modulation of their antiviral capacity against HIV-1.

Your mission

The successful applicant will perform his/her tasks in the experimental research group of Prof. Anders Sönnerborg. The main working tasks will be on evaluation of the antiviral effects of natural killer cells on HIV latency/replication and modulation of these effects by drug compounds. This includes analysis of cellular and molecular mechanisms within both NK cells and HIV-1-infected cells in in vitro and ex vivo experiments. The applicant will perform their research within the framework of Prof. Anders Sönnerborg’s and Dr. Robert van Domselaar’s HIV projects and give intellectual and administrative support to other members of the research group.

Your profile

It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown:

  • Knowledge in virology and/or viral immunity, especially in relation to HIV and the pathogenesis of viral diseases.
  • Knowledge in cell culture techniques and analysis tools relevant to viral pathogenesis and/or cellular immunity.
  • Experience of research in BSL-2 and/or BSL-3 laboratory facilities.
  • Experience in primary cell cultures, in particular primary NK cells and/or primary T cells.
  • Excellent knowledge in English, written and spoken, is a requirement.

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown:

  • Skills in the following techniques:
    i) cell (co-)culture systems, immune cell isolation from peripheral blood, cellular functionality assays, genetic modifications of cells.
ii) antiviral assays, multi-colour flow cytometry analysis.
iii) other techniques; DNA/RNA isolation from tissues or cells, ELISA, immunofluorescence, immunoprecipitation, luciferase reporter assays, PCR, quantitative PCR, SDS PAGE, western blotting, proteomics.
  • The person should be well organized, service-oriented, and flexible.
  • A positive and collaborative attitude to work in a dynamic environment which includes strong social skills.
