The Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM) is one of the six units of the Department of Medicine, Huddinge. Since its inauguration in 2002, CIM has grown rapidly as a nationally leading and internationally competitive environment for studies of the human immune system in the context of infectious diseases. Our ambition is to become one of the leading translational research centers within immunity, infectious diseases and immuno-oncology in Europe. The successful applicant will have a unique opportunity to work closely together with clinicians and experienced researchers in the fields of immunology, cancer and infection and contribute to high quality research in an internationally competitive level.
Our research group investigates the underlying immunopathogenic mechanisms in human infectious, inflammatory and neoplastic diseases. The successful applicant will conduct research and education with focus on myeloid immune cells in infectious and inflammatory diseases. The Senior Research Specialist shall conduct research to elucidate the role of myeloid cells focusing on granulocytes in the pathology of various diseases, such as sepsis, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease and Langerhans cell histiocytosis aiming at providing tools for the design of more efficient diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
We are looking for a researcher with a clear ambition to lead an independent research line within the subject area. The Senior Research Specialist will be expected to independently head projects on basic and translational research aimed to characterise phenotypically and functionally the granulocytes in various tissues and diseases using technologies such as multicolour flow cytometry, cell sorting, high-resolution microscopy, single cell RNA sequencing approaches etc. The successful candidate is expected to work closely with other members of the group and with national and international collaborators and contribute significantly to a productive research environment. In addition, the candidate is expected to obtain additional independent funding, supervise students and participate in research education.
To be eligible for employment as a Senior Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent expertise with significant scientific production in the field of cancer and immunology, with a particular focus on myeloid cells. In addition the applicant must must have received funding in competition. The applicant must also have demonstrated a clear scientific independence to which their own contribution has been significant and a research plan of high quality with clear potential for the future.
The Senior Research Specialist candidate is expected to have post doctoral experience and additional research experience as Assistant professor (or similar) for at least 4 years. The successful applicant should have a strong background in cancer research, in molecular and cellular biology and in human immunology. Previous work relevant to human myeloid immune cells including granulocytes as well as research on Langerhans cell histiocytosis, inflammatory bowel disease or psoriasis are necessary. Documented experience from working with patient material is highly advantageous.
