The position will be placed in the research group headed by Professor Anita Gondor at Department of Oncology and Pathology, Campus Solna, Karolinska Institutet.  Gondor´s group, is a group of scientists with a drive to understand genomic organization by developing new methods for characterization of the genome organization and its interplay with circadian rhythms and metabolism. The mission is to improve personalized cancer treatment with special reference to breast cancer. At present we seek to strengthen our research group with an outstanding scientist with proven expertise in mathematical and systems analysis to interpret and integrate molecular data from cellular experiments and clinical samples. Your mission

We are looking for an outstanding researcher with a strong background in mathematics, mathematical modeling, theory, and analysis. Expertise in complexity theory and algorithms are required. Techniques for discrete and continuous modeling with special reference to disease relevant analysis is required. You are expected to lead the computational analysis in a collaborative project on breast cancer. In addition to maintaining an independent research track, you are expected to interact closely with experts in molecular biology and clinicians.

Tasks for the position

  • Manage projects and serve as an expert in mathematical modeling and systems analysis
  • Maintain an independent and internationally competitive research program
  • Apply for external funding - both national and international
  • Actively participate in academic, industry and health care collaborations involving data-driven methods to improve understanding of cancer and other diseases
  • Development of computational tools to support biomedical data-analysis

Your profile

A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis corresponding to qualification as Assistant professor.

Qualifications

  • PhD in mathematics, computational biology or other related relevant field
  • Several years of postdoctoral experience in systems and computational biology
  • Experience of collaboration between different disciplines, with particular reference to different medical areas
  • The applicant must speak and write fluent English as well as demonstrate excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated expertise and publications in the biomedical area using techniques from complexity theory and network analysis is required
  • The applicant should have experience in training and mentoring students and/or postdocs
  • The applicant must have a strong problem-solving mindset and a proven ability to independently lead and conduct accurate analytical work in an efficient way, but it is also important to be a good team player in this role
  • Responsibility, engagement and flexibility are in addition critical personal characteristics for this position, allowing successful results in changing and different environments
  • Since the position involves close interactions with several researchers, emphasis is placed on personal skills such as very good collaborative skills and excellent communication and analytical skills
