At the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology (CLINTEC), the division of Pediatrics, there are excellent opportunities to conduct leading and high-quality research in pediatrics.

In addition, we annually hold four courses in pediatrics in the medical program semester 10 and two student-selected courses in semester 11. Research, teaching and clinic are closely geographically integrated, which provides very good conditions for creating effective networks.

Description of the subject area

Pediatrics, i.e. child and adolescent medicine, is a broad specialty with several subspecialist areas within Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital. The specialty deals with all medical health problems from the newborn period to the age of 18.  Within the division of Pediatrics, CLINTEC, clinical, translational and epidemiological research is carried out within the subspecialty areas that characterize the medical activities of Astrid Lindgren's Children's Hospital (ALB) at Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge, such as pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, pediatric nephrology, pediatric hematology, neonatology, emergency pediatrics , pediatric neurology, pediatric obesity, pediatric allergology, pediatric pulmonary medicine, as well as children with HIV infection and cystic fibrosis.

Your mission

We are looking for a future colleague who is a specialist in pediatrics with an academic and clinical focus within one of the sub-specialist areas mentioned above. You will supervise doctoral students MD-students as well as future pediatricians, conduct research of high quality as well as being course director and examinator at the MD-program. You are also expected to drive and administer the development of the division, the department and Karolinska Institutet, for example through various central administrative tasks.

The position as a professor in pediatrics includes clinical duties as at least specialist physician in child and adolescent medicine at Astrid Lindgrens Childrens Hospital at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge. The position is divided in 50 percent at Karolinska Institutet and 50 percent as a clinician at Astrid Lindgrens Childrens Hospital at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Professor with focus on education and research the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical skills and very good scientific skills, and clinical skills. See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet.

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

The employment will be combined with an employment as specialist physician, assistant chief physician or chief physician in pediatrics (SV: barn- och ungdomsmedicin) at Astrid Lindgrens Childrens Hospital at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge and therefore you must have an MD with specialist competence in pediatrics, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden.

Since the employment includes clinical work, you must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale, CERS).

Assessment criteria

The Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (3), leadership and collaboration skills (2) and clinical skills (2).
