The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.

Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). Division
The successful candidate will work within a research group with strong skills in advanced epidemiological analyses. The research group uses the unique possibilities in Sweden to perform epidemiological research about sustainable lifestyle and health.

Duties
The successful candidate is expected to apply advanced data management skills and statistical analyses of epidemiological data such as cohort studies, case-control studies, survey data as well as randomized clinical trials.

She/he is also expected to prepare tables, figures and draft manuscripts as well as supervise 2-3 students /years (bachelor and master level).

Since part of the research group is situated at Mälardalen University, the candidate is expected to attend meetings at the campus in Västerås a few times every semester as well as to be involved in the ongoing research at Mälardalen University. 

Educational background that is required
PhD in epidemiology or biostatistics

Experience and knowledge that is required

  • Advanced data management skills needed for observational studies using different types of data including questionnaire data, clinical data , microbiome etc.
  • Expertise in epidemiological study design and analyses, with focus on nutritional epidemiology approaches.
  • Prior experience from using several of the following statistical software and programming languages: SAS, R, Stata, Excel.
  • Prior experience from research on lifestyle factors and health.
  • Prior experience from working in an international research context.
