Division
The Division of Neurogeriatrics is focused on translational research in neurodegenerative diseases, in particular Alzheimer disease.

The Project and the Research Group
The project aims to harness neprilysin and autophagy for treatment of Alzheimer disease. Neprilysin and autophagy are two main degradative pathways of the Alzheimer-causing amyloid β peptide. We have recently found that neprilysin is regulated by a subset of somatostatin receptors. In this project, a high through put screen for brain-barrier-permeable neprilysin-activating as well as autophagy-activating compounds will be performed. Positive hits will be further assed by treating Alzheimer disease mouse models to investigate effects on neuropathology and behavior. Currently the group has about 6 members including senior scientists, post-docs and graduate students with a broad international background. We now want to expand the group with a 1 year postdoctoral scholarship with possibility of extension.

Duties
The postdoc scholarship candidate is expected to have a strong drive to pursue experimental research, and an ambitious and innovative attitude. The projects are pursued in collaboration with several research groups, and good collaborative skills are necessary. Good ability to speak and write English is also a requirement.

Entry requirements
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate.
A doctorate in (bio)medicine, cell biology, biotechnology or similar topic is required. The postdoc to be recruited needs to have good knowledge in neurodegenerative diseases. Experience from drug discovery in industrial settings and establishment of in vitro screening assays is a merit. Working with mouse models is highly qualifying.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Type of scholarship
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. 

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
