Department of Medicine, Solna, Rheumatology division

The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

Division
The Rheumatology research Unit is located in the Centrum for Molecular Medicine (CMM) and constitute an active and internationally acknowledged research unit. The research group led by associate professor Jon Lampa focus on neuroregulation of immunological processes and pain mechanisms in rheumatic diseases.

Duties
The candidate is expected to perform research and manage a laboratory in the area of neuroregulation of immunological processes, with special focus on importance in chronic inflammatory diseases such as arthritis. The applicant will be responsible for the planning of the project as well as data acquisition, preparation and analysis, manuscript writing and other activities for disseminating the results. Work is also to seek external research funding from external funding agencies and to supervise students

Entry requirements
Applicants must have a PhD in cell and molecular biology or biochemistry and skills in immunological methods, for example cell culture, FACS, MesoScale and PCR, are needed. Skills in animal surgery and gene mapping methods/analysis are wanted. Experience in neuro-immune regulation and in neuro-stimulation on animal models will be of further priority. Selection criteria include scientific excellence, ability to collaborate and to solve problems encountered in research. Good spoken and written English is required. Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.
