The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.
Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). The department is situated at campus Solna. Further information can be found at http://ki.se/en/meb
Division
The proposed studies are based on large ADHD cohorts identified from national health registers, the Swedish twin register and clinical cohorts. These datasets contain valid diagnoses of ADHD, prospective measures of environmental risks, high throughput genotyping, longitudinal information on prescribed ADHD medications and assessments of serious medical (psychiatric, neurological, and somatic problems) and functional outcomes (academic and occupational).
Duties
The successful candidate is expected to apply advanced epidemiological analytical methods (including quantitative and molecular genetic approaches) to explore how genes and environments influence ADHD and its co-occurring conditions across development and to identify the benefits and risks associated with ADHD treatment interventions across multiple functional outcomes.
The position also involves co-supervising PhD students in the research group. It is therefore desirable for the applicant to have prior experience teaching and/or supervising students at a postgraduate level.
The position is for 2 years with possibility of extension.
Entry requirements
Educational
The position requires a university degree in a relevant field such as psychology or epidemiology and a PhD degree with a focus on psychiatric epidemiology and/or psychiatric quantitative and molecular genetics. If the doctorate degree is not yet obtained, the PhD thesis defense should be scheduled to take place within two months of the last date of the application and needs to be obtained before starting. A strong publication record is highly desirable.
Experience and knowledge
1) Expertise in epidemiological study design and analyses, including quantitative and/or molecular genetic analyses.
2) Experience working with large datasets and register-based research using Swedish national registers.
3) Prior experience from research on ADHD and other co-occurring neuropsychiatric conditions.
4) Ideally prior experience teaching and/or supervising postgraduate students.
Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.
