Department of Medicine, Solna, Immunology and Allergy division

The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

Division
The Immunology and Allergy division is an independent division within the Department of Medicine Solna, Karolinska Institutet, where clinical and experimental allergy research is performed in close collaboration with the Department of Clinical Immunology at Karolinska University Hospital. One post-doc position is now open in Professor Marianne van Hage's research group. The overall objective of the research group is to improve diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases as well as to increase the understanding of their underlying mechanisms. The group works in an inspiring and interactive research environment and has ongoing collaborative projects with many national and international colleagues. Excellent laboratory facilities and well-characterized patient materials are available.

Duties
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist in projects investigating the mechanisms of allergic disease, elucidating the immune response to allergen molecules and evaluating new vaccine candidates, with focus on severe food and respiratory allergy. The successful candidate will work with a broad range of immunological techniques, protein and antibody derived assays, flow cytometry, cell based systems as well as proteomics. Good collaboration skills and capacity to independently develop the research area are needed. The projects involve international collaborations within molecular biology, proteomics, array technologies and development of immunotherapeutic treatments.

Entry requirements
PhD degree in biomedical sciences or biochemistry. The applicant should have documented experience of working within the field of immunology/allergy and be well acquainted with standard immunological techniques. Previous experience of clinically oriented studies in allergy with focus on food or respiratory allergy is highly meritorious. Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals in the area of research are required. The candidate must have good knowledge in English (both spoken and written), and demonstrate excellent communication skills, documented by e.g. participation in international meetings.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.
