Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för medicin, Huddinge

We are recruiting a student for doctoral education. After a candidate is selected, an admission process commences. The candidate is admitted as a student once an individual study plan for the doctoral education has been approved by the departmental admission board.

For more information regarding doctoral (PhD) education, see: http://www.ki.se/doctoral.

Research group
The research groups of Björkegren and Betsholtz are located in the Integrated Center of Cardiometabolic Research (ICMC) at the Department of Medicine in Novum, Huddinge south of Stockholm. Both groups are performing research of the arterial wall using high-dimensional data such RNAsequencing. Of particular interest in both groups is single cell RNAseq data generation and analysis. While Betsholtz’s group focuses mostly on vasculature using genetically modified mouse models, Björkegren’s group focuses primarily on vascular and metabolic tissues isolated from patients with cardiometabolic diseases. Although the groups are independent, members at ICMC work closely together.

The doctoral education project and the duties of the student
The PhD project concerns development of bioinformatic analysis focusing on single cell RNAseq. Together with the more senior bioinfomatic fellows in the groups, the PhD student will have a main responsibility for adapting state-of-the-art bioinformatic analysis methods from literature and apply these in analysis of RNAseq and other forms of high-dimensional data.
