Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

You will start research in a dynamic environment in a multidisciplinary team with a focus on understanding the heterogeneity and complexity of aging and cognitive diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. Our research has a strong focus on advanced imaging techniques in combination with artificial intelligence. Independent work is combined with collaborations within and outside the research group. Own ideas and initiatives are encouraged.

Duties

An important task for the applicant is to contribute to the ongoing research activities in Professor Eric Westman's research group, both conceptually and methodologically. In particular, the person is expected to take an active role in our research by using imaging methods to study aging and cognitive diseases. It is also expected that you will gradually initiate and run your own research projects, which can be done to some extent based on your own area of interest. The successful candidate should be able to take personal responsibility, work independently and be able to work in a team. In addition, the candidate should have broad knowledge and expertise in brain imaging (MRI), image processing and machine learning. Coordinating projects within the research group, supervising students and writing applications are also included in the role.

Entry requirements

The candidate should have experience in the analysis of imaging methods such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and/or positron emission tomography (PET) in aging and cognitive diseases. Programming knowledge in R or Python is a requirement. The applicant should also have experience in machine learning. Experience in analyzing multiple MRI modalities such as sMRI, DTI and fMRI is highly desirable. The successful applicant should have strong scientific credentials that confirm the ability to conduct high-quality peer-reviewed research. An asset is experience of research in an international environment. We are looking for a social person who enjoys collaborating. This is very important as the applicant will be working in a group. Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is a requirement.

Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their merit in Sweden. A foreign researcher is a person
living in another country who comes to Sweden with the intention of only staying in Sweden for all or part of their postdoctoral education at KI. Persons who are resident in Sweden and/or have carried out all or part of their academic education at KI or some other educational institution in Sweden cannot be considered for scholarships. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four-year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate, or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post-doctoral education.
