Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
We are looking for a postdoc to join our research group at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet, where we perform research on aging and age-related diseases using a variety of epidemiological and molecular epidemiological methods.
The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.
Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). The department is situated at campus Solna. Further information can be found at http://ki.se/en/meb.
The research group of aging epidemiology is involved in a wide variety of research projects, including molecular and genetic epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, as well as twin and family studies. The group contains about 20 people - from professor to PhD- and master students - with several different PI´s collaborating on many research topics within aging. Research interests are biological aging, frailty, genetics of dementia, polypharmacy in the old and many more.
The postdoctoral candidate will focus on a research project on Parkinson’s disease (PD), which is the fastest growing neurodegenerative disease in the world. Much remains to be understood about its molecular basis for disease onset and progression.
The successful applicant will analyze register, lifestyle and omics data collected from multiple nationwide sources in various observational designs, which include but are not limited to (genome-wide) case-control, trial emulation and longitudinal designs, to enable causal inference about the roles of an array of biomarkers and risk factors in PD.
Your role will include participating in all parts of the scientific process: performing literature searches, planning research studies, conducting data management and statistical analysis, and disseminating research findings. You will also be involved in supervising students and supporting grant application and project implementation.
Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their postdoctoral research in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
This scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of 18 months within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
Your profile
The ideal postdoctoral candidate will have a PhD in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, or a related discipline. A strong interest in neurological disease is a prerequisite and knowledge in this field is meritorious.
You should have high skills in statistical analyses and experience of analyzing both conventional epidemiological and molecular data. Expertise in statistical software programs (for example R, SAS or STATA) for data analysis is important, and experience in genetic epidemiological analyses, such as Mendelian randomization, is meritorious.
You should have high skills in scientific writing and be fluent in written and spoken English.
You should be highly motivated and have high analytical skills. You should be able to work independently, but also to collaborate well with others.
A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. Here, we conduct innovative medical research and provide the largest range of biomedical education in Sweden. At KI, you get to meet researchers working with a wide range of specialisms and methods, giving you ample opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the various scientific fields within medicine and health. It is the crossover collaborations, which have pushed KI to where it is today, at the forefront of global research. Several of the people you meet in healthcare are educated at KI. A close relationship with the health care providers is important for creating groundbreaking top quality education and research. Students and employees have free access to our modern gym facilities with trained staff on site.
The amount is tax free and it is set for 18 months, paid out on a six months basis.
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
