Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, Division of Clinical Geriatric

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Are you an enthusiastic and ambitious researcher with an interest in neurobiology and bioinformatics? We are searching for a postdoctoral fellow to conduct groundbreaking gene expression analyses in neurodegenerative diseases. Take the opportunity to work in an international environment with world-leading research and contribute to the development of new diagnostic biomarkers and treatment strategies for Alzheimer's disease.

Division

The division of Clinical Geriatrics consists of a multi-disciplinary team of 50 employees, at the forefront of translational Alzheimer's disease (AD) research using cutting-edge technology with aims to develop new diagnostic biomarkers and new treatment strategies in AD. We work in an inter-disciplinary environment which provides ample opportunities to enhance our understanding and skills.

Duties

Our group specializes in therapeutic applications targeting cholinergic pathways, primarily using Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) via encapsulated cell (EC Biodelivery) or cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEI’s) towards Alzheimer’s disease (AD) therapy. We aim to further our work by performing in-depth gene expression analysis from high-throughput sequencing projects, employing in-vitro, preclinical and clinical studies.

This position involves designing and executing experiments, data management and analysis, manuscript preparation, presenting research, contributing to grant proposals and mentoring students. The candidate will analyze and integrate next-generation sequencing data and have the opportunity to publish in high-profile papers, with national and international collaborations.

The ideal candidates should hold a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or a related field, with experience in omics data analysis (e.g., single-cell RNA-seq, bulk RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, methylation data, or any other). Proficiency in analyzing single-cell ATAC-seq and spatial transcriptomics, programming languages and advanced bioinformatic tools is an asset. The candidate should have an interest in neurodegenerative diseases and a proven record of high-quality scientific research and publications. Excellent verbal and written English skills and the ability to write and apply for grants are required.

We are looking for a self-motivated scientist who can coordinate collaborative projects.

Entry requirements

Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their postdoctoral research in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
