Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, Division of Clinical Geriatric

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Are you an enthusiastic and motivated researcher with an interest in developing non-invasive drug-delivery?
We are now looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join our Department of Clinical Geriatrics, where you will have the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research and development.

Division

The Division of Clinical geriatrics consists of about 40 employees. Division of Clinical Geriatrics consists of a multi-disciplinary team at the forefront of translational Alzheimer's disease (AD) research using cutting-edge technology with aims to develop new diagnostic biomarkers and new treatment strategies in Alzheimer´s disease.

Duties

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist to join our multi-disciplinary team at the forefront of translational Alzheimer's disease (AD) research. Our group specializes in therapeutic applications targeting cholinergic pathways, primarily using Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) via encapsulated cell (EC Biodelivery) or cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEI’s). We aim to explore advanced techniques for non-invasive NGF delivery to the brain, employing in-vitro, ex-vivo, and preclinical animal models to develop and verify various delivery formulations.

The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in biological/biomedical/chemical sciences, with experience in nano formulation for drug delivery including development of formulations and characterization methods (e.g., DLS, FTIR, TEM, SEM, XRD, drug-release). Proficiency in in-vitro cell culture systems and in-vivo mice models is essential. Additional experience in HPLC, histological evaluation, fluorescence microscopy, western blotting, and ELISA are highly valued. The candidate should have a strong interest in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease, and a proven record of high-quality scientific research and publications. Excellent verbal and written English skills and the ability to write and apply for grants are required.

Entry requirements

Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their postdoctoral research in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
