The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The Department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: cardiovascular medicine, allergy, and inflammatory diseases.

The current position is advertise by the Division of Cardiology at the Department of Medicine Solna which conducts clinical, epidemiological and experimental research as well as education.

Your mission

The selected researcher will contribute conceptually as well as methodologically to several registry-based research studies assessing the interaction between heart failure and diabetes  under the supervision of Assoc. Professor Gianluigi Savarese. The candidate will work on performing statistical analyses and writing reports or manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals. The candidate will be also engaged in teaching and supervising PhD and MD students, as well as in writing applications for funding. This is a temporary full-time position of two years.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the candidate must have demonstrated research, teaching and clinical expertise, as well as development and collaborative skills, and clinical expertise.

The ideal applicant is expected to:

1. Have good experience in research, certified by the number of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, particularly in the field of heart failure, diabetes and metabolism;
2. Be able to perform clinical epidemiological and registry-based research in the heart failure and diabetes field;
3. Have knowledge in the methodology needed for performing registry-based and epidemiological studies, including good knowledge of statistical programs Stata and/or R;
4. Having teaching experience and organizational skills, enabling educational activities;
5. Have good organizational skills and experience from arranging and leading lectures, seminars and bedside clinical education;
6. Holding a medical degree and being a clinically active specialist in either internal medicine or cardiology.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Location

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of twelve divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research group L. Lund, focusing on registry-based research in the field of heart failure (i.e. characterization, treatment and study design in heart failure)
