We are looking for an ambitious postdoctoral fellow with solid human immunology skills to join our EU-funded project (REACT) on cell-mediated immunity against respiratory viral infections. We offer an international collaborative environment in a rapidly moving research frontier. The successful candidate will be part of the EU cluster of researchers working at Karolinska Institutet (KI) and Denmark Technical University (DTU).
Within the EU consortia, we (Dr. Marcus Buggert, KI, and Dr. Sine Reker Hadrup, DTU) oversee the human studies on virus-specific T cell immunity. These studies are translational and involve using cutting-edge barcoding single-cell technologies, including high-parameter flow cytometry, RNA-seq, TCR-seq, proteomics, and gene-editing analysis to dissect the heterogeneity and function of memory T cell immunity.
The postdoctoral candidate will work with immunological questions centered on respiratory tract infections, including SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A, and RSV. The fellow will work in close conjunction with researchers at DTU during the first year(s) and use next-generation barcoding technologies to decipher similarities and differences in how T cells recognize different respiratory viruses after vaccination and infection. The candidate will also work in close collaboration with various members of the group at KI to set up barcoding and other single-cell technologies to dissect different functions of human memory T cell biology in viral disease. As such, we are seeking a postdoctoral candidate with a Ph.D. in the field of T cell immunology who will work as an integrated member of our teams at KI and DTU, with the capacity to implement new technologies to drive his/her own projects forward.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral candidate, the candidate should have demonstrated research expertise and documented research experience in human and/or T cell immunology during or after the Ph.D. defense. A strong candidate should preferably have a solid background in studies of human T cell biology in viral infections, e.g., SARS-CoV-2. Experience in sequencing techniques, flow cytometry, and virus-specific T cell technologies will also be considered merits. Applicants should have first-author publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals. Fluency in English is a requirement.

A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. At Karolinska Institutet, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. At KI, you get to meet researchers working with a wide range of specialisms and methods, giving you ample opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the various scientific fields within medicine and health. It is the crossover collaborations, which have pushed KI to where it is today, at the forefront of global research. Several of the people you meet in healthcare are educated at KI. A close relationship with the health care providers is important for creating groundbreaking top quality education and research. Karolinska Institutet is also a state university, which entitles you to several benefits through our collective agreement.
