The Division of Infectious Diseases, at the Department of Medicine Huddinge is involved in basic scientific, translational and clinical research with focus on infectious diseases. The department is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet.

The division conducts preclinical and translational research which is partly performed at laboratories located within the newly build facilities at Alfred Nobels Allé 8 (ANA8), Campus Flemingsberg. ANA Futura is a leading translational integrated research environment equipped for cutting-edge research, where the boundaries between research departments and clinics are torn down and researchers collaborate on the basis of common research profiles. The announced position will be placed in Professor Anders Sönnerborgs research group, which has a strong focus on pathogenesis, treatment and epidemiology of viral infections. The translational and clinical research is a strong component with close ties to the Department of Infectious Diseases, Karolinska University Hospital, which is the largest ID clinic in Sweden. Prof Sönnerborg research group is involved in several international collaborations. We publish around 10 well-cited (current h-index 61) articles per year in peer-reviewed journals.

Your mission

The applicant will be joining the translational/clinical research group of professor Sönnerborg and mainly work on clinical and molecular epidemiology of viral infections with focus on SARS-CoV-2 and HIV, using state of the art epidemiological, statistical and molecular tools.   The research includes the use of electronic health records (EHR) systems, administrative health registries and specifically designed registries for viral infections. The research has a strong international character.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

We are looking for a person with profound knowledge in medical biology with a focus on epidemiology, especially virology, in biostatistics and the use of EHR systems including the use of administrative health registries. Knowledge in other microbial infections, such as bacteria and parasites, is a merit as well as insights/experience in biotechnological techniques.

Excellent knowledge in English, written and spoken, is a requirement. Additional knowledge in other languages is a strong merit.

The applicant must have profound knowledge in the following computer skills: office package, R programming. Knowledges in SQL, Stata and/or SAS are additional assets.

Experience of use of EHR and registries is mandatory. Prior research on SARS-CoV-2 / covid is a strong merit. Experience from larger international collaborations is highly warranted.

The successful candidate could eventually be involved in certain laboratory duties and experience from laboratory research is a merit.

The person should be well organized, service-oriented and flexible. A positive and collaborative attitude is a pre-requisite for working in the Sönnerborg group and a great emphasize is put on the collaborative attitude of the applicant. Thus, of importance is that the candidate is well aquainted with collaborative work in a dynamic environment which includes strong social skills. The collaboration also includes frequent interaction with international researchers and a positive attitude to interaction with such researchers from different countries and cultures from all over the world is a must.
