Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Division of Infectious Diseases performs research and education in close collaboration with the Karolinska University Hospital. The research teams address a wide range of infectious diseases using clinical, epidemiological and experimental approaches.

The Sundling Research Team focuses on understanding the immune response to different pathogens with the aim to find biomarkers to better distinguish them on a molecular level. We are now recruiting a research assistant for a short-term project focusing on experimental immunology to investigate how the immune system is affected by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). The studies involve both experimental lab work and bioinformatic analysis. The studies are based on well characterized cohorts recruited in Sweden and via collaborators.

The research group is based at the new research laboratories at BioClinicum on the Karolinska University Hospital site in Solna. The experimental environment is located in close proximity to the clinic.

Your mission

The research assistant will perform experimental studies to investigate mechanisms of how immune cells respond to stimulation with mycobacterial antigens and then apply to novel diagnostic approaches. The project will also include analysis and visualization of large datasets and potential integration of different types of data. The research assistant will be involved in all parts of the projects, ranging from generating research hypotheses, plan and execute laboratory work, data analysis, supervision of students, statistical analysis, and writing scientific publications.

Your profile

The candidate must hold a master of science or equivalent in the field of microbiology, biology, or biomedicine. The applicant should have extensive knowledge and practical experience of cell work, including flow cytometry. Experience with bioinformatic analysis of immunological datasets, using R is advantageous. Previous work with tuberculosis is meriting.

The candidate is expected to be organized and able to work independently. The project is pursued in an interdisciplinary environment with collaboration with several international research groups, and good collaborative skills are a requirement. Fluency in English is mandatory.
