Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher to join the Michaëlsson group in our efforts to decipher the role of Natural Killer (NK) cells in lung tumors. The overall research interest of our group is human innate lymphocytes, in particular NK cells, in health and disease. Our studies encompass basic and translational immunology of innate lymphocytes in tissues, from fetal development to adulthood, and typically are performed in collaboration with clinicians at the Karolinska University Hospital. The current position focuses on understanding the biology of tissue-resident NK cells in human lung tumors.

Division

Within the Michaëlsson group, currently consisting of the group leader, one senior researcher/Team leader, one post-doc and one PhD student, we offer a highly collaborative environment with strong expertise in human tissue-immunology, cutting-edge multiparameter flow cytometry, single cell genomics, and a common enthusiasm for human NK cell research. The environment at CIM encompasses 16 research groups within the fields of immunology, infection, cancer and autoimmune diseases, operating under the same roof with shared infrastructure, close collaborations, joint seminar series and a great social environment.

Duties

The successful candidate will study tissue-resident NK cells in primary human lung tissue and lung tumors using combinations of molecular-, cell biological and immunological techniques, including advanced multicolor flow cytometry, single cell RNA sequencing and in vitro assays. The projects aims at furthering our understanding of basic immunological aspects of tissue-resident NK cells in the lung and lung tumor, as well as to explore ways to potentiate these cells for eradication of tumor cells. Parts of the work will be performed in close collaboration with other members of the group, but the candidate is also strongly encouraged to develop independent projects.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Applicants should have a strong background in human immunology, preferably with expertise in biology of human NK cells and/or tissue-resident lymphocytes. Competence in advanced multicolor flow cytometry analysis and sorting, as well as in single cell RNA sequencing and analysis are meriting. Excellent communication and writing skills in English are mandatory as the successful candidate will be working closely with other members of the group and our collaborators. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to plan, execute, and analyze experiments in an independent manner, as well as in collaboration with other researchers at CIM, and to contribute scientifically to CIM and the Michaëlsson group.

Location: The position is located at ANA Futura, at the Department of Medicine Huddinge, Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM), Flemingsberg campus.

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
