The Department of Oncology and Pathology’s mission is to improve diagnostics, treatment and quality of life for patients with cancer through basic, translational and clinical research and education in the field of cancer. We want to achieve excellence in research and education, foster clinical research and create high technology platforms for research support and innovation. In that we value ethics, high diversity and equality; cultivate openness networking and collaborations to consolidate national and international forces to cure cancer.
DNA Repair at Science for Life Laboratory
At Science for Life Laboratory, we establish platforms for the discovery of novel anti-cancer drugs and investigate molecular mechanisms in DNA repair and cancer metabolism. We work in teams combining experts in chemistry, biochemistry, biologists, pharmacologists, physicians and data scientists. An essential part of our work is research, teaching and collaboration on national, international and intradepartmental levels. Within this setting, the Helleday laboratory is seeking an Assistant Professor in Chemical Biology.
The new Assistant Professor (Biträdande Lektor) will carry out research to establish a platform for the investigation of molecular functions and mechanisms of base excision repair members, particular DNA glycosylases. These efforts will enable the identification of novel targeting strategies to control DNA damage in cancer and high oxidative stress conditions. Thus, the applicant ideally combines a strong background in bioorganic synthesis (phosphates, carbohydrate, peptides), with expertise in assay development (biochemical and biophysical) and DNA repair biology with a particular focus on DNA glycosylases. Further, a profound knowledge of building computational model systems for molecular simulation is desired. The tasks of the post will further include:
The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for 4 years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer.
Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor.
Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist.
Special grounds refer to:
Ground, dates and extent must be clearly specified in the application and verified with relevant documentation.
Scientific expertise will be most important when assessing applicants.
A person is eligible to be appointed if they have been awarded a Degree of Doctor or achieved the corresponding scientific competence and are able to demonstrate skills and experience in the fields of DNA repair, chemical biology or related. Preference will be given to candidates who have postdoctoral experience.
