Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Signal Transduction research group at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery is interested in signal transduction in pancreatic islet cells under physiological and diabetic conditions. In recent years, the group has established a new innovative and versatile platform based on transplantation of pancreatic islets into the anterior chamber of the eye and successfully pioneered its application in in vivo characterization of signal transduction in islet cells in normal and diabetic animal models.

Your mission

The group is now seeking a “biträdande lector” who will investigate the underlying factors and mechanisms leading to the derangement of islet cells during type 2 diabetes (T2DM) development to identify new potential therapeutic targets for diagnosis and treatment of the disease. The studies will include work on animal models of T2DM and protein candidates potentially involved in cellular dysregulation during the early phase of T2DM development. Besides working on these projects, the candidate is expected to supervise students, write grant applications and to develop an independent line of research.

The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for 4 years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer.

Eligibility requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and socially skilled candidate that enjoys working in a collaborative environment. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent line of research, should have a strong track record in T2DM research, pancreatic islet biology and insulin signal transduction.

We seek a candidate with documented scientific accomplishments at the postdoctoral level. A PhD in medical science or related sciences is required. Prior experience in metabolic flux analysis, HPLC, qPCR, confocal imaging and in situ hybridization is necessary for this position. Documented knowledge in multicolor flow cytometry, molecular biology skills and a strong publication record in peer reviewed journals as well as previously granted funding are meriting for the position. The successful candidate is expected to have experience in designing animal studies with mice. Since the applicant will work in a highly international environment good communication skills and proficiency in spoken and written English are essential.

Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor.

Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist.
