The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition performs research and education in several areas of medical science including aging, Alzheimer, bioorganic chemistry, biomaterial, molecular endocrinology, cancer biology, functional genomics, systems biology, epigenetics, structural biochemistry, immunology, and nutrition. It offers an excellent international research and working environment, including around 250 scientists, students, administrative and technical personnel. The Department resides in Neo at Campus Flemingsberg, a biomedical research building, aimed at being a creative and open environment that enables meetings, synergies, and exploration of areas of mutual interest across disciplines.

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The research group of Prof. Qiang Pan-Hammarström works on the molecular mechanism of immunoglobulin class switch recombination (CSR), genetics of primary immunodeficiency and B-cell lymphomagenesis. The research laboratory is located at Campus Flemingsberg. For more information about the group, see https://ki.se/en/bionut/research-group-qiang-pan-hammarstrom

Your mission

We are looking for an applicant who is strongly motivated in studying genetic defects and immunological/functional abnormalities underlying primary immunodeficiencies. In this position as an assistant professor, you will be working in our multidisciplinary team of researchers including clinicians, immunologists, molecular biologists and bioinformaticians. The main task of the successful candidate is to pursue research and research supervision in the field of identifying potential diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets on different types of inborn errors of immunity (in particular antibody deficiency and those associated with cancer, especially lymphoma) by detailed clinical phenotyping, pathological/imaging investigations, advanced immunological evaluations, next-generation sequencings such as whole genome/exome sequencing, targeted sequencing, multi-omics functional assays and single-cell sequencing. The applicant is expected to analyze, interpret and integrate the clinical, immunological and functional data and write high-quality scientific publications. Other duties include collection/processing/managing of the clinical samples and multi-omics data from a large international cohort of primary immunodeficient patients and contributing to the supervision of PhD, postdoc, master and other students in the group. The candidate is also expected to be able to help to apply and obtain research fundings.

The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for 4 years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer.

Eligibility requirements

Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor.

Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist. Special grounds refer to illness or parental leave.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated clinical researcher for the translational medicine/clinical immunology team in our group. A person is eligible to be appointed researcher if he/she has been awarded both MD and PhD, and has extensive traning in clinical immunology and primary immunodeficiency. The candidate should have achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis, with first-authored and extensive publications in internationally leading journals in corresponding fields in recent years. Advanced research experience in next-generation sequencing techniques/data analysis, including whole genome/exome sequencing, multi-omics analysis including single-cell assays and bioinformatics are required. The applicant must be detail-oriented and able to work productively via collaborative interactions with team members. Documented pedagogical skills and supervision courses would be advantageous. Knowledge about conducting systematic reviews, handling the patients/health largescale data registry, primary immunodeficiency burden of disease and molecular epidemiology are meritorious.

Bases of assessment

Scientific expertise will be most important when assessing applicants.

The applicants’ track record based on curriculum vitae and bibliography will be assessed. Evidence for the capacity to work and publish in a multidisciplinary environment including researchers, clinicians and bioinformaticians is weighted in ranking the applicants. Reference letters will be requested and considered from selected candidates.
