Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Your mission

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious research technician to join the research group of professor Mikael Rydén and Dr Niklas Mejhert. The work will involve studies of human adipocytes in vitro and phenotyping of human biopsies ex vivo and will be carried out at the Lipid Laboratory at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge. We have a fully equipped wet laboratory in the new NEO research building at Karolinska Institutet Campus Flemingsberg. Clinical studies and fat tissue biopsies are performed at the nearby Endocrinology Unit at the Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge.
The successful candidate has documented experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques as well as experience in taking care of common routines required to run a successful research lab. The work will involve culture and phenotyping of human cells, advanced biobanking of human blood and biopsy samples, DNA and RNA isolation, as well as other cellular and molecular techniques with relevance for the projects. We expect the candidate to take interest in and responsibility for developing improved and novel methods.

Your profile

To qualify, the applicant should at least have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biomedicine, molecular cell biology, pharmacology or equivalent. Applicants should have experience and adequate training in cell culture work, as well as standard laboratory techniques, molecular biology or equivalent. Specific knowledge and experience of working with primary human cell cultures/stem cells, in particular scaffold-free 3D cultures/organoids/microtissues is a particular merit. Experience from qPCR, cloning, imaging, bioluminescence and metabolic profiling by bioenergetics analyses is also meritorious. The candidate will work closely with foreign researchers. Computer literacy and proficiency in English is required for the tasks. Given that several administrative tasks are done in Swedish, it is a clear advantage if you can speak/write in Swedish. As our group works in an open and non-hierarchical organization, it is important to also have collaborative and communicative skills.
We are looking for a highly motivated person who is thorough, well-organized and service-oriented. The candidate must have good communication skills and ability to interact with colleagues in our dynamic group as well as with other international collaborators. You are expected to rather independently carry out the cell culture work and your input in experimental methodologies is very welcome.
