Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

A laboratory technician position is available in the research group of Professor Kenneth Chien. The team consists of physicians and scientists who are focused on studying cardiogenesis in multiple model organisms and its implications for regenerative medicine. The research goal is to find novel pathways and principles for regenerative medicine in general, and to repair damaged cardiac muscle cells in particular.

Your mission
Your duties will be divided between the aquatic facility and the laboratory. Your main priority will be to generate and maintain transgenic amphibian lines. Duties in the aquatic facility include amphibian husbandry, breeding, cleaning of aquaria and microinjection of eggs with CRISPR/Cas9 constructs. Duties in the laboratory include basic molecular biology techniques such as cloning, bacterial work, PCR and agarose gel electrophoresis. Additionally, you will be required to assist with in vivo experiments performed by a senior researcher in the laboratory. Depending on the project progress you will be expected to learn and apply new techniques.

You must also have a good understanding of basic molecular biology techniques and genome editing tools such as CRISPR/Cas9 technology. Proof of experience in genome walking, analyzing sequencing results, performing microinjections into amphibian eggs and screening transgenic animals via fluorescence microscopy are required. Knowledge of newt heart morphology physiology as well as heart regeneration is meriting.

Skills and personal qualities
You are thorough, diligent and used to documenting and organizing your work. You work in a clean and precise way. We expect you to be a positive, flexible person with good communication skills who appreciates being in a highly dynamic international research team.
