Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

A position as Research Assistant is immediately available in the Crosetto lab for Quantitative Genome Biology at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) in Stockholm, to carry out a project recently granted funding by the SciLifeLab open call for COVID-19 related proposals.

The position will be based in the Bienko-Crosetto laboratory (https://bienkocrosettolabs.org/), a dynamic research environment focused on genome biology, oncogenomics and methods development (Nature Biotechnology 2020; Nature Methods 2013a, b; Nature Communications 2017a, b, 2019a, b; Cell Reports 2014; Communications Biology 2018).

Your mission

The main task of the position is to prepare next-generation sequencing (NGS) libraries from biological samples of COVID-19 patients from Sweden and other EU countries and sequence them, thus giving an essential contribution to studying how SARS-CoV-2 viruses is evolving in Europe.

Specific tasks associated with this position include:

  1. Preparing NGS libraries from RNA extracted from COVID-19 samples using commercially available kits (Illumina)
  2. Supporting a PhD student and a postdoc in the Crosetto lab who are developing a custom NGS method specifically tailored for SARS-CoV-2
  3. Sequencing of the NGS libraries on a NextSeq500 machine co-owned by the Crosetto group
  4. Following the analysis of the resulting sequencing data performed by a senior bioinformatician in the Crosetto group.

Your profile

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary and dynamic team of international researchers, including clinicians, biologists, biotechnologists, engineers, computer scientists, and physicists. Our mission is to transform the way we understand complex biological phenomena and diseases, by integrating next-generation sequencing technologies, single-molecule microscopy methods, and advanced computational tools.
