Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

We seek a postdoctoral researcher who will work in the Unit of Environmental Epidemiology at the Institute of Environmental Medicine, the position is temporary until the end of 2020.

The unit of Environmental Epidemiology is focused on epidemiological research concerning causes of asthma and allergy as well as the health effects of ambient air pollution, community noise and green structure. Molecular biomarkers are used to assess interactions between environmental and hereditary factors, as well as to better characterize exposure and health effects. Many projects are conducted in international collaboration. We often participate in environmental health risk assessments for national as well as international organizations and authorities. These assessments are often based on research conducted within the unit.

Your mission

The postdoctoral researcher will be part of a project on indoor environment and respiratory health. In particular, the postdoctor will investigate urinary metabolites of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) and their association with asthma and lung function in early adulthood. The project is based on an ongoing birth cohort (BAMSE) where 4089 participants has been followed from birth to age 24 years (www.ki.se/ bamse). The duties of the postdoctoral researcher will include data management, statistical analyses and manuscript writing.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

We are looking for a dedicated postdoctor interested in research on environmental factors and health. To be eligible for the present position the applicant must have a PhD degree in medical science in the area of epidemiology, environmental factors and health or similar, as well as formal education in epidemiology and statistics. Knowledge on urinary biomarkers of environmental exposures (in particular PAH exposure) is a merit, as is documented experience from working with such biomarkers in epidemiological studies. Furthermore, excellent knowledge in English including scientific writing is required. We place great emphasis on personal qualities, and the applicant will need to both feel comfortable with working in teams and demonstrate good interpersonal skills and also be independent enough to formulate new hypotheses and critically examine the results.
