Division and research group

Professor Oscar Fernandez Capetillo, while maintaining his group at the CNIO in Madrid, has started a new “Cancer Therapy” group at the Karolinska Institutet – SciLifeLab in Stockholm. This group aims to become a highly international, and reference lab, focused on the development of new drugs and chemicals that could be of use in the treatment of cancer and other age related diseases. The research in this newly started group is mainly conducted by using cell based high-throughput phenotypic screens to discover novel molecules, which will be further developed using medicinal chemistry into potential drugs. The group has obtained generous funding from the Swedish Research Council that should secure its activities in the long term. At SciLifeLab, the research group is surrounded by labs of other world leaders in cancer biology, and has access to national facilities for proteomics, microscopy, next generation sequencing, chemical biology, drug discovery and development, among others.
Currently, one postdoctoral position is open with a flexible starting date in the field of cancer research and drug development, we offer an intellectually inspiring setting in which the successful candidate will be part of exciting and novel research that aims to make a difference.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or other relevant fields. Experience in the biology of DNA damage and repair is mandatory. Complete fluency in both written and spoken English is a request. The candidate’s communication and personal skills will be highly valued. The candidate will be expected to supervise PhD and master students. Writing grants and applying for funding will be requested, as well as designing and executing projects.
