A postdoc position is available in the research group of Professor Kenneth Chien. The central scientific interest of his group is to understand heart development at the molecular and cellular level, with the ultimate goal of applying the developmental principles, logic, pathways, technology, and model systems to unravel human heart disease.

Your profile

We are seeking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to elucidate cardiogenesis in cell culture systems and animal models. The candidate is expected to work with animal models and embryonic stem cells, manipulate embryos and perform molecular cell biology and imaging techniques. The candidate is expected to be able to work independently with the projects.

Entry requirements

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

A person is eligible for this position as postdoctoral researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD degree in a relevant area from a top tier university. The successful candidate must have strong background in cardiogenesis and developmental biology. The candidate is expected to have extensive training with different animal models and systems, as well as holding FELASA B and C certificates or equivalent. The candidate should have a strong publication record in top-ranking journals. The candidate must be fluent in English (both spoken and written), and demonstrate excellent communication skills, documented by participation in international meetings. The candidate’s personal skills will be highly valued.

Specific skills required

  • Strong background in cardiac development, biochemistry and molecular biology
  • Experience in working with different animal models, including mice
  • Experience in embryonic stem cell line culture and cardiac differentiation
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy
  • Experience in CRISPR-Cas9 technique and molecular cloning

Meriting skills

It is meriting for the candidate to show deep understanding of transcriptional and epigenetic regulations in cardiogenesis. Experience in isolating and manipulation of cardiac tissues from early stage embryos and experience in epigenetic regulation research methods, including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and ATAC-seq as well as animal manipulations such as microinjection are also meriting skills.
