Karolinska Institutet, Department of NVS, Aging Research Center, ARC

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2018 of 490 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Division
ARC is a center for interdisciplinary scientific research on health in aging that is grounded in collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm University. The research group includes senior researchers, postdocs, doctoral students, and guest researchers, and it provides a vibrant and stimulating working atmosphere. The available position is for one year.

Duties
Together with gerontologists, epidemiologists, and clinical researchers, the candidate will contribute to an ongoing project aimed at investigating the relationship of multimorbidity and functional status – including frailty – and its biological/clinical determinants in older people. The selected postdoc will be involved in all parts of the research process, ranging from generating research ideas, and application of novel methods in real-studies. Production of manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, and other forms of dissemination will be central activities. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to contribute with her/his expertise to other projects carried out within the research group. The candidate will also be engaged in writing applications for funding. Finally, teaching at first- and second-cycle level at Karolinska Institutet will also be among the working tasks.

Entry requirements
The candidate should be a medical doctor with clinical with a PhD in the field of geriatrics and gerontology. Good programming skills (SAS/Stata/R) will be highly desirable. Documented skills in development and application of novel methods would be an advantage.
The applicant should have extensive hands-on experience in using and interpreting longitudinal/population-based data and register data. Excellent collaborative, communication and writing skills are needed. Very good English skills in speaking and writing are an absolute requirement for the position. Knowledge of Swedish will be positively evaluated.
